Eliza Neals presents “An Evening with Motown Legend Barrett Strong” on June 22nd 2013 at The Cutting Room, New York, NY
Inducted in 2004 to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Barrett Strong is a pivotal figure in Detroit’s history as a singer, writer and composer. “Money (That’s What I Want)” for Anna Records in 1960 provided vital capital for Berry Gordy Jr. to expand his operation. The song gave Mr. Strong his only major hit as a vocalist, reaching #2 on the R&B charts and barely missing the pop Top 20. “Money” is one of the most widely covered songs including a cool version by “The BEATLES.”
An All-Star line-up of Local and National Recording Artists-Musicians are slated to perform and delight the audience with their favorite Strong/Whitfield hits. Including: The Fellas, Judd Harris, Eliza Neals, Danni Gee, Julien, Lizz Kristi, Steven Feifke, Sal Carolei, Tyrone Smith, Jent LaPalm, Michael Gallante, Shane Visbal, Debra Devi, Paul Orbel, Chris Ams and the Drew Schultz Funk Machine backing up this historic night.
During the late ’60s and early ’70s, Mr.Strong collaborated with the late writer/producer Norman Whitfield on historic songs including “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “Too Busy Thinking About My Baby,” “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” “Ball of Confusion,” “War,” “Just My Imagination,”
All proceeds will go to Mr. Strong’s medical and living expenses.
