“Thunder In The House opens ferociously with Speedy Beady, a powerhouse riff, and the raunchy vocals of Neals. This has me hook, line, and sinker from the outset. So Bluesy and charismatic, and with the word “Rooster” in the lyrics, well, you can’t get more Blues than that. All of the songs on the album are original and feature most of the musicians, with Eliza Neals being the main contributor. Blues Bombshell is simply magnificent, the title describing the content so eloquently. “Detroit,” Mike Hepner accompanies the song on piano. His style reminds me of Otis Spann in his early years; it’s as though Hepner is telling us, “I’ll throw in the black keys for free”.

What strikes me most vividly about this album is its intensity, its no-holes-barred attitude; this is how Blues is meant to sound. Neals is one hell of a gifted artist, songwriter, musician, and vocalist. There are many gifted female Blues artists around at the moment, Eliza Neals is as good, if not better than any of the others. Locked Up and Wicked Heart, both penned solely by Neals, highlight what I have previously said about her: she’s at the top of her game. Thunder In The House closes this magnificent collection of songs, and it immediately put me in mind of, When The Levee Breaks, I mean that as a massive compliment to Eliza Neals and the rest of the musicians.
